How Bail Bonds Work

Vehicular Manslaughter in Nevada
Vehicular manslaughter is normally a misdemeanor charge in Nevada, and while a very serious charge, it is the least severe charge possible when one's alleged negligent driving causes the death of another motorist or pedestrian.
Misdemeanor level vehicular manslaughter carries a standard bail of $5,000. Thus, the state-mandated 15% bail bond premium would be $750.
This is much higher bail than most misdemeanors, which have a $1,000 standard bail. However, it pales in comparison with the $100,000 bail for felony level vehicular manslaughter (with "gross negligence). In that case, the bail bond fee would be $15,000, which is still far less than paying the full $100,000.
A similar charge that should also be mentioned is DUI Resulting in Death. This is essentially vehicular manslaughter with intoxication by alcohol or drugs as a contributing cause. Standard bail for this charge would be $20,000, with a $3,000 bail bond fee.
